Among the many treasures, beautiful glassware with applied silver can frequently be found.
The most commonly used term for this type of glass is Silver Overlay.
It is also sometimes called Silver Deposit or Silver Decorated.
The silver decoration was not added by the original glassware manufacturer.
A decorating company like Silver City Glass or Rockwell Glass (and there were many others)
purchased the glassware "blanks", added the decoration, and marketed the finished product.
One of the fun things about collecting decorated glassware is the ability to
have glassware from various manufacturers in the same collection. Silver City Glass
and Rockwell Glass bought blanks from Duncan and Miller, Viking/New Martinsville, Cambridge Glass
and other glass makers. Other glass decorating companies may have purchased blanks
